Activating an Inactive Site

Overview

You added a site but it looks "inactive" — it isn't showing a green Active badge, it shows a Widget Not Installed notice, or it stopped serving the widget. AllAccessible doesn't actually have a status literally called "Inactive." What you're seeing is one of a small set of real statuses, and each one has a specific, quick fix. This guide explains what each status means and the exact steps to get your site fully active.

Who This Is For

  • New users who just added a site and don't see it as Active yet

  • Site owners whose site stopped serving the widget

  • Anyone seeing a "Widget Not Installed" notice or a non-green status badge

What You'll Learn

  • What the real site status badges mean

  • Why a site can look "inactive" even when billing is fine

  • The concrete steps to activate: install the widget, fix billing, verify the domain

  • How to tell which fix your site actually needs

First: Which "Inactive" Are You Seeing?

On the Sites page, each site is shown as a card with a colored status badge and, in some cases, an amber alert. AllAccessible uses these real statuses:

Badge

Color

What it means

Active

Green

Subscription current (or on the free plan). Everything is running.

Trial

Blue

You're in the 7-day trial. Fully functional until it ends.

Past Due

Yellow

A payment didn't go through. You're in a grace period.

Paused

Yellow

The subscription is paused.

Canceled

Red

The subscription was cancelled.

Unpaid

Red

Payment is outstanding and the subscription is unpaid.

There is no badge literally labeled "Inactive."

Separately, a site card can show an amber "Widget Not Installed" notice. This appears when the site has no recorded pageviews and no scans yet — regardless of billing status. This is the most common reason a brand-new, fully-paid site still feels "inactive": the subscription is fine, but AllAccessible hasn't detected the widget on your website yet.

So there are really two different situations:

Option 1: Install the Widget (Most Common for New Sites)

If your site is Active or on Trial but still shows the Widget Not Installed notice, the accessibility widget hasn't been added to your website's code yet. Adding a site in the dashboard creates the account and subscription — it does not place any code on your website. You do that once.

Steps

  1. Open the How to Install page (link in the left sidebar and the top bar), or click the Install button on the site card's amber notice

  2. Choose your installation path:

    • WordPress: install the AllAccessible plugin and enter your account ID / email

    • All other platforms: copy the install snippet and paste it into your site's HTML, just before the closing </head> tag

  3. Publish/save your website changes

  4. Load a page on your live site so the widget can register its first visit

Your Account ID and the exact copy-paste snippet are shown on the Install page.

What to Expect After Installing

  • The widget's floating button should appear on the pages where you added the code.

  • Once real visits and/or a scan register, the Widget Not Installed notice clears on its own.

  • Allow a little time for the first pageviews and scans to show up in the dashboard.

The widget appears where you place the snippet. If you want it on only one subdomain, install the snippet only on that subdomain. See Display the Widget on One Subdomain Only.

Option 2: Resume or Fix Billing

If your site shows Past Due, Paused, Canceled, or Unpaid, the fix is on the billing side.

Past Due or Unpaid

A payment failed. Update your payment method to restore service:

  1. Go to Billing in the left sidebar

  2. Click Manage Billing to open the secure billing portal

  3. Update your card / payment method and settle the outstanding amount

  4. Past-due sites also show a Reactivate action you can use to restart service

Paused or Canceled

  1. Go to Billing → Manage Billing to review the subscription in the billing portal

  2. Start a new subscription or reactivate as prompted

  3. If you don't see an option to resume, contact support (below) — some paused/cancelled states are restored with help

Trial ended? When a 7-day trial ends without a payment method on file, the site moves out of trial. Add or confirm your payment details through Manage Billing to continue on the paid plan, or the site can remain on the free plan with reduced features.

Verify the Domain

If the widget is installed but you still don't see activity, confirm the code is on the domain you expect:

  • The install snippet is tied to your account ID, and the widget recognizes the site by the domain it loads on.

  • Make sure the snippet is published on the live domain (not only a staging copy) and that it wasn't stripped by a caching or optimization plugin.

  • If you moved from a staging URL to a live URL, note that a site's URL is read-only and can't be self-edited — see Changing Your Site URL.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: My site says Active but the widget doesn't appear on my website. Why?
A: "Active" refers to the subscription, not to whether the code is on your site. If you see the Widget Not Installed notice, install the snippet (Option 1).

Q: Is there an on/off switch to "activate" the widget in the dashboard?
A: No. There's no master enable/disable toggle. A site becomes active by having a current subscription (or the free plan) plus the widget installed on your website.

Q: I'm on the free plan. Why does my site still show as Active?
A: Free-plan sites are always shown as Active. If nothing seems to be happening, check for the Widget Not Installed notice and install the snippet.

Q: How long until the "Widget Not Installed" notice clears?
A: It clears automatically once the site records its first pageviews or a scan. Load your live site after installing to kick this off.
