Creating and Publishing Your Accessibility Statement

Overview

Your accessibility statement is a public, good-faith disclosure of your commitment to accessibility, the standards you work toward, and how visitors can reach you if they hit a barrier. AllAccessible gives you a built-in rich-text editor so you can write, paste, and publish your statement without touching code. This guide walks you through creating your statement, customizing it with a ready-to-use starter template, and understanding how updates reach your live site.

Note: An accessibility statement is a good-faith disclosure, not a legal guarantee of compliance. It describes your commitment and current status honestly — it does not certify that your site is fully compliant or provide legal protection.

Who This Is For

  • AllAccessible paid users (Starter plan and above)

  • Website owners publishing their first accessibility statement

  • Anyone maintaining a public accessibility disclosure

What You'll Learn

  • Where the statement editor lives and how to open it

  • How to write or paste your statement using the rich-text editor

  • A starter template you can copy, paste, and customize

  • Where your statement appears and how updates propagate

Before You Start: Plan Requirements

The accessibility statement editor is available on the Starter plan and above.

  • Free plan: The Accessibility Statement tab is visible, but opens a locked upgrade panel instead of the editor. You'll see a prompt to upgrade.

  • Starter and above: Full access to the rich-text editor, preview, and save.

If your subscription is inactive (for example, canceled or lapsed), the editor is also locked until the plan is reactivated. A short grace period applies to past-due accounts, so the editor stays usable during that window.

Step-by-Step: Create Your Statement

Step 1: Open the Statement Editor

  1. Log in to your AllAccessible dashboard

  2. Select your website from your list of sites

  3. Open the Accessibility Statement tab

You'll see three quick-reference cards at the top — your compliance standard (WCAG 2.2 Level AA), the last-updated date, and your testing method (Automated & Manual) — followed by the editor.

Step 2: Write or Paste Your Statement

The editor is a full rich-text (WYSIWYG) editor, labeled Statement Content. You can:

  • Type your statement directly

  • Paste formatted content from a document

  • Use the toolbar for headings, lists, links, and basic formatting

Not sure where to start? Use the starter template below — paste it in and customize the placeholders for your organization.

Heads up: An AI-assisted feature to help draft your statement is coming soon. For now, the editor is fully manual — you're in complete control of every word.

Step 3: Preview

Click Preview to open a preview modal and see exactly how your statement will read before it goes live. Review the wording, check your links, and confirm your contact details are correct.

Step 4: Save

Click Save Statement. Your content is saved immediately and becomes the version served to your site. See How Updates Reach Your Live Site for propagation timing.

Starter Template (Copy and Customize)

Paste this into the editor and replace the bracketed placeholders with your own details. Keep the language honest — describe what you actually do, and avoid claiming full or guaranteed compliance.

Our Commitment

[Your Organization Name] is committed to ensuring digital accessibility
for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user
experience for everyone and applying relevant accessibility standards.

Conformance Status

We aim to conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA, which helps make web content
more accessible to a wider range of people with disabilities — including
accommodations for blindness and low vision, deafness and hearing loss,
limited movement, speech disabilities, photosensitivity, and combinations
of these. Accessibility is an ongoing effort, and some areas of our site
may not yet fully meet these goals.

Accessibility Features

Our website provides accessibility tools through the AllAccessible widget,
including:- Text sizing and spacing adjustments
- Color contrast controls (including dark mode)
- Dyslexia-friendly font options
- Keyboard navigation support
- Reading guides and focus indicators

Assessment method: Automated testing and manual evaluation.

You're free to add sections that fit your organization — known limitations, a dedicated accessibility contact, VPAT/ACR links, or a remediation timeline. See Editing Your Accessibility Statement for a full customization guide.

Where Your Statement Appears

Once saved, your statement is served to your site through the AllAccessible widget:

  1. Visitors click the accessibility button on your site

  2. The widget opens, showing accessibility features

  3. Visitors can open your accessibility statement from the widget

On a Dedicated Page (Optional)

Many organizations also publish the statement as a standalone page. To do that:

  1. Copy your statement content from the editor

  2. Create a new page on your site (for example, /accessibility-statement)

  3. Paste the content and link to it from your footer

Best practice: Publish in both places — the widget for in-context access, and a standalone page linked from your footer for maximum visibility.

How Updates Reach Your Live Site

When you save, your statement is stored instantly and shows in your dashboard right away. On your live site, the widget serves a cached copy for performance, so changes can take a little time to appear for all visitors.

For the full breakdown of caching layers, propagation timing, and how to force an update when you need one, see Accessibility Statement Caching Explained. In short: save is instant, most new visitors see updates within about an hour, and repeat visitors may see a cached version a while longer.

Common Questions

Q: Does AllAccessible write the statement for me?
A: Not today — you write and edit it yourself in the rich-text editor. An AI-assisted drafting feature is in development. The starter template above gives you a solid, honest starting point in the meantime.

Q: Is my accessibility statement legally sufficient?
A: A statement is a good-faith disclosure, not a legal guarantee. It should describe your commitment and current status honestly. For your specific legal situation, consult qualified counsel — don't treat a statement as compliance certification.

Q: Can I paste content from a Word doc or another generator?
A: Yes. Paste it into the editor and adjust formatting as needed. You can also start from the template above.

Q: Will my statement appear on mobile devices?
A: Yes. The widget and statement are fully responsive across devices.

Q: Can I export my statement for other uses?
A: Yes. Copy the content from the editor and reuse it on a standalone page, in a PDF, or in printed documents.

Troubleshooting

Issue: The Editor Is Locked / I See an Upgrade Prompt

Cause: The accessibility statement editor is a Starter-and-above feature, or your subscription is inactive.

Solutions:

  1. Confirm you're on the Starter plan or higher

  2. If your plan is inactive, reactivate it from your billing page

  3. Past-due accounts keep access during a short grace period

Issue: Statement Not Appearing in the Widget

Possible causes:

  1. On a free plan (the editor is Starter+)

  2. Caching hasn't updated yet on your live site

  3. Your own browser is showing a cached copy

Solutions:

  1. Verify your plan tier

  2. Allow time for the cache to refresh (see the caching guide)

  3. Hard refresh your browser (Ctrl+Shift+R / Cmd+Shift+R) or test in a private window

Issue: Updates Not Showing

Cause: Statement caching on your live site.

Solution: Give the cache time to refresh, or test in a private window. See Accessibility Statement Caching Explained for details and options.

Next Steps

After you publish:

  1. Test it in your widget

  2. Optionally, add a standalone statement page and link it from your footer

Ongoing:
4. Review your statement every 6 months
5. Update it after major site changes
6. Keep your contact information current
