Widget Settings Not Saving? Dashboard Settings vs. Visitor Preferences
Overview
AllAccessible remembers settings in two different places, and they behave differently. Settings you change in your AllAccessible dashboard are saved to your account and apply to every visitor on your site. Adjustments a visitor makes inside the widget on your website are saved only in that visitor's browser. Knowing which one you are looking at tells you exactly what to check when something does not seem to stick.
Who This Is For
Site owners whose dashboard changes seem to revert after reloading the page
Site owners answering visitor questions about widget adjustments that reset
Anyone configuring Text-to-Speech, colors, position, or other widget defaults

Two Places Settings Live
1. Dashboard settings (your account)
These are the defaults you configure for your site at app.allaccessible.org. Open your site, choose the subdomain, and select the Widget Settings tab. Sections include widget position and colors, branding, feature cards, Text-to-Speech Settings, and scanning options.
Saved to your AllAccessible account, not to your browser
Apply to every visitor of that subdomain
Take effect after you click Save Changes. Changes typically apply to your site immediately after saving. If not, allow up to 30 minutes for cached widgets to propagate.
Full customization, including Text-to-Speech Settings, is available on Starter and above. On the Free plan you see a FREE Tier - Basic Customization banner and a limited set of options.
2. Visitor preferences (their browser)
When a visitor opens the AllAccessible widget on your website and turns on adjustments, such as larger text, contrast changes, or a different reading voice, those choices are stored in that visitor's browser on that device.
Saved locally using browser storage, as described in our Cookie Policy
Affect only that visitor, on that browser and device
Cleared when the visitor uses the widget's Reset button, clears their browser data, or browses in a private window
Which One Am I Looking At?
Check the address bar:
The page URL starts with... | You are changing... |
| Dashboard settings for your account |
Your own website address | Visitor preferences in that browser |
If you are on app.allaccessible.org, browser cookies, private mode, and extensions are not involved. Dashboard settings are saved on our side.
Dashboard Settings Do Not Stay Saved
Work through these in order:
Click Save Changes and wait for the confirmation. Changing a dropdown or slider does not save on its own.
Reload the Widget Settings page and confirm the value you chose is still shown.
Check you are on the right subdomain. Each subdomain has its own Widget Settings. Use the subdomain selector at the top of the page.
Check your plan. If the page shows the FREE Tier - Basic Customization banner, or your subscription is inactive, only the basic options are available. Sections such as Text-to-Speech Settings appear once the site is on Starter or above.
Give cached widgets time. If the dashboard shows your new value but your live site still shows the old behavior, allow up to 30 minutes.
If the dashboard itself shows a different value after you reload than the one you saved, that is something for us to fix, not your browser. Contact support and include:
The page URL from your address bar
The setting name (for example, Text-to-Speech Settings › Default Language)
The value you chose and the value shown after reloading
That detail lets us reproduce the problem right away.
Visitor Adjustments Do Not Stay Saved
If a visitor reports that their widget adjustments reset between visits, the usual causes are on their device:
Browser set to block cookies or site data for your website
Private or incognito browsing, which clears storage when the window closes
Privacy extensions that clear site data automatically
Browser data cleared manually
A quick test: turn on an adjustment, reload the page, and see whether it is still active. If it is not, storage is being blocked or cleared on that device. Trying a different browser confirms it.
A Note on Text-to-Speech
Text-to-Speech has settings in both places:
Dashboard › Widget Settings › Text-to-Speech Settings sets the defaults for your site: Default Language, Default Voice, Speech Rate, Pitch Adjustment, and Volume Level. The voices offered always match the language you select. Use Preview Voice Settings to hear them before saving.
If Allow users to customize TTS settings is on, visitors can adjust speed, pitch, and volume inside the widget. Those adjustments are visitor preferences and stay on their device.
